Kayaking On Lake Tahoe

When: July 16 (Monday) 8:45 am:  boats in the water 9:30 am. Rental office opens at 9:00 am so let's be the first customers so we can be in the water by 9:30.
RSVP: An early RSVP by July 11 would be very helpful (in order to plan the lunch; see below).

Kayaking: The plan is to paddle from King's Beach east towards Crystal Bay for about an hour, then turn back. Everyone is welcome to go longer or shorter as they wish.  When you leave the launch area, turn left and head East to a rocky point that is about 1/2 mile away. You will be kayaking by beaches and houses. There are also many large rocks to kayak around. When you go past the rocky point, you will see another rocky point about 1/4 mile away. Head towards it or go into the small quiet bay of the Brockway Community. In this bay, you will find a TINY sandy beach called Speedboat Beach. You can dock there now or on the way back from Crystal Bay to stretch your legs. When you continue on past the second rocky point, turn left and you will be entering Crystal Bay. The adventurous can kayak all the way across the Bay to Incline Village or you can meander along the rocky coastline looking at houses, rocks, fishermen, etc.

Kayak renters:   You can rent a kayak from Tahoe Paddle and Oar, 8299 North Lake Blvd., Kings Beach 96143.  (Phone number is 530-581-3029 and website is tahoepaddle.com.   Contact person is Molly.
Single kayaks are $25 per hour .  If you rent for two hours the third hour is free.
Double kayaks are $40 per hour .  If you rent for two hours the third hour is free.
Payment will be made at the store, then kayaks, oars, and life jackets will be on the beach ready to go.
Car Parking:  Free parking is permitted at the store location.  It is a short walk from this location to where the rest of the group will be located, which is the Coon Street Boat Ramp where will all meet.

Kayak owners:  Turn right at the second traffic circle onto Coon. At the end of the street is the parking lot and launch area. That's where we'll meet everyone
Parking: Parking in the main parking lot is $10 ($1 discount if over 62 years old) - They have pay stations so you can use a credit card.

Post Kayak Lunch - Kings Beach has a large, flat sandy beach with picnic tables - a perfect place for a post kayak picnic lunch.  Your coordinator Bob Stevens will arrange a community taco salad. Once we know who's going, everyone will be assigned one or two ingredients to bring. When we return to Kings Beach after the kayaking, we'll combine everything into one giant salad,  and enjoy a delicious and easy lunch together! This takes some time to organize so PLEASE do sign up by July 11 at the latest. Some items need a small amount of preparation, others don't.  We'll make one vegetarian salad and one with meat. Other ingredients can be separated to accommodate allergies and tastes. Please bring your own beverage and eating utensils.
Bring: Money for parking and rental, life jackets and paddles (for kayak owners), sunscreen, sunglasses,  hat, lunch food items, beverage and glass, plates, fork.

We strongly encourage you to wear a life jacket !!!
